Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get a cheap Motor Trade Insurance Policy?

If you have a price from another broker that seems too good to true, it probably is. The most important thing to consider is the cover you have been provided to ensure that you don’t end up driving other people’s vehicles illegally as it could cost you, your business and your driving licence.

Why do we need to provide proof of trading?

Many times the insurers will ask for a proof of trading from your motor trade business to allow you to take the policy. Don’t worry, this is standard procedure and requested by many insurers. Unfortunately, in the past, some individuals have misused motor trade policies due to the ‘any vehicle’ nature of the cover and insurers are now keen to ensure this does not happen again.

What if I am a new motor trader?

If you don’t have any experience in the motor trade industry and are looking for cover, give us a call, as depending on your circumstances we should be able to assist you in finding a policy that will fit with your new venture.

What kinds of business can a motor trade insurance cover?

Anything in the motor industry can be covered under a trade policy, from being a car dealer, to a garage owner, but you will have to be an active trader with your proof of trading. If you are unsure if you need motor trade insurance or not, let us know when you speak to one of our account managers.

Will I be covered to drive any vehicle?

Yes depending on what coverage you have asked for. Different insurer’s offer different indemnity levels (value of vehicle limits) and also may have exclusions on certain cars, such as Ferrari’s. All vehicles must be owned by you or a business partner(s) or be used in connection with your motor trade business. All vehicles in your custody and control for longer than 14 days that you require insurance for must be recorded onto the MID (Motor Insurance Database).

What is a combined motor trade insurance policy, and do I need it?

A combined policy not only covers your vehicle/road risk, but can also cover; material damage for the building, public liability, employers’ liability, goods in transit and more. If you are not sure whether you would benefit from a combined policy, you can get more information from one of our experienced account managers.

What types of vehicles can be covered on a motor trade insurance policy?

At Insurance Revolution, we have policies to cover a wide range of vehicles, with anything from motorcycles to trucks, so we have most of the spectrum covered. If you need to know if we can find insurance for your vehicle, please let our account managers know what vehicle it is and we’ll do our best to find the right quote for you!

What changes should I let my insurer know about?

If you need to make any changes to your motor trade insurance policy, it is just the same as making any changes to any other type of policy, such as a car or van. If you are making any changes to your details, you should let your insurer know about the changes. If you are adding vehicles to the policy, the information will need to be uploaded through the MID.

The way we approach motor trade insurance is very methodical. With our unique easy quoting system we are able to get quotes from the major motor trade insurers quickly and without asking the same questions over and over again.
